He's Cooking

Phew, it's been rough not eating out. I know.. I am lucky enough to be able to afford to eat out and in all honesty.. I worked hard for it! But lately my fiancé and I have placed ourselves on a spending freeze to kick our spending habits and to save for a house. The rules are simple: no spending money at all unless needed which means if I'm hungry find something to cook and utilize what we have left in the fridge until we are forced to replenish. Other acceptable spending would also include gas, gym membership and bills. It's been pretty interesting and my fiancé sure knows how to cook within a budget!

Love is in the air. Valentines day recap.

Happy belated Valentines day everyone! Oh my, time has flew by.. This will be the 8th valentines day I have spent with my fiancé!! Typically every Hallmark holiday, I try and attempt to make something edible and this time I think I was successful (will post a pic later). For lunch, I decided to keep it simple and made filet mignon and buttered potatoes with a side of asparagus. The asparagus wasn't the best but I tried... According to the fiancé, he was impressed with the flavor and temp of the steak which was a perfect medium rare. I was just glad we both didn't get dysentery from under cooked meat. :) For dinner, we had a nice meal at the Farallones in San Francisco. The food was mediocre and the service was particularly slow. The highlight of the restaurant was the ambiance and the cod. The fish was nice and light with hints of sweet and savory notes and it was cooked to perfection but all else fell short such as the steak, scallop, shrimp dishes we ordered. Nonetheless, we still had a great time!
Quick tip for those buying flowers on any occasion, go to costco ( if you have a membership) because the prices are inexpensive and the flowers are fresh!! Please don't buy from 1-800-flowers.. The stock photos look great but I promise..you will be disappointed. But below are some roses I picked out for my mother and my soon to be mother in law from Costco for $15.99! What a deal!!!
